FINALIST - HORNSBY ART PRIZE 2026

Elizabeth Primmer's work "The Landscape Erased and Rewritten", 79 x 79 cm, oil painting, was selected as a finalist in the 2026 Hornsby Art Prize, Sydney. She drew inspiration from a long connection to the landscape along the Hunter River at Morpeth, NSW.
Primmer says her process involves scraping back and layering material, echoing the environmental forces that shape the area. She is drawn to the ephemerality of shifting colours within this resilient landscape, a landform continually erased and rewritten by cycles of drought and flood.
This dialogue between landscape and abstraction explores both the enduring spirit and fleeting moments of a river system in constant flux.
